The National Road & Zane Grey Museum
Three Museums in One!

Our Mission

​The mission of the National Road and Zane Grey Museum is to preserve the history of the National Road and its impact upon the growth of the nation. It also honors  the writings of  Zanesville native, renowned western author, Zane Grey and displays examples of historic regional pottery.

National Road

See how dense forest evolves into an busy interstate highway as you travel down the 136 foot diorama of the National Road. A Conestoga wagon with all its bells and whistles will help you understand how pioneers traveled into Ohio's uncharted territory.

Zane Grey

Learn about the life of the "father of the western novel." See how a New York dentist with roots in Zanesville, Ohio matured into a world renowned author with 85 tittles under hist belt.

Local Pottery

Zanesville has a long and historic past built upon clay. View dozens of examples from utilitarian to art pottery and learn how this industry build the Zanesville economy.
