Zane Grey

Local author, Zane Grey, the father of modern American Western literature, was born in 1872 in Zanesville, Ohio. The great grandson of Colonel Ebenezer Zane (Zane’s Trace), he earned a degree in dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania before becoming a full-time writer. Artifacts and memorabilia from the Grey family chronicle Zane’s life of adventure. A novelist, semi-pro baseball player, photographer, hunter, cartoonist, film maker, and big game fisherman, he carried his readers on exciting journeys. They, in turn, made him America’s first millionaire author. An exact replica of Zane Grey’s final studio in Altadena, CA allows visitors a glimpse into the creative world of a writer who became an entertainment icon.
